This was fine, but I don't know why it's so hyped up tbh. There weren't any glaring issues, apart from the fact that I think it was a tad overwritten, but it just didn't blow me away. Now I'll preface this by saying enemies to lovers is my favorite, however, I just found the enemies part of their relationship to be superfluous. They weren't enemies. I found the ending to be a bit too corny for my tastes. I didn't like it, it just doesn't stand out to me so I don't have much else to say about it honestly. It's fine but overhyped. I think the author just did a great job with marketing maybe, or I'm missing something... who knows!
I am so torn on how to rate this one! I mostly enjoyed my time spent in between these pages, but I struggled quite a bit with the clunkiness of the first half of the story. A lot of that first half felt over-written and I think that this book definitely would have benefitted from another round or two of edits to cut it down a bit more. I would consider reading more from Elena in the future, but this was not the new favorite for me that I thought it would be.
The Spanish Love Deception was a cute rom-com overall and I can see why a lot of people loved this book. It felt like a refined The Hating Game + some other romance books.
